Everett sets school records in high jump and triple jump
April 18, 2015
ADA, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's and women's track and field team enjoyed summer-like conditions at the Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Invitational on Saturday as they competed in their last regular season meet before the HCAC Conference Championship.
Sophomore Trey Everett (Sidney/Fairlawn) tested his talent in a new event, the triple jump, where he established a new school record with a leap of 45' 7.25" and leads the performance list heading into the conference meet. He improved on his high jump clearance for the season as well, breaking his own school record with a clearance of 6' 10.25", while junior Blake Drewes (Archbold) set a new personal-best clearance of 6' 6". Everett and Drewes hold the top two clearances in the conference leading up to the championship next weekend.
Senior Jeff Parker (Bristol, Ind./Northridge) finished 2nd in the javelin with toss of 178', while freshman Erick Benge (Monrovia, Ind./Monrovia) improved his distance to 137' 5". Freshman Brock Morris (Burbank/Norwayne) returned to the pole vault pit to place 4th with clearance of 13' 7.75" with sophomore Terrill Webb (Kenton) competed in the women's vault after a lengthy layoff to claim 3rd place at 10' 10.25".
Head coach Karen Brandt was pleased with her athletes' efforts. "Continued hard work and focus are paying off. College outdoor track is such a short season, only six weeks this year, so everything has to come together quickly. We saw things we liked today, now everyone just needs to bring their A effort and attitude to the conference meet." The Beavers travel to Transylvania University to compete in the HCAC Conference Championship Friday and Saturday, April 24-25.
