Beavers softball coach, Heather Bruder, resigns
Bluffton University has an openign for a head softball coach.
On Friday, May 8,, head softball coach Heather Bruder announced her resignation at the end of the 2014-15 academic year. This coaching change comes against an unfortunate backdrop of a public event that occurred during the May 1 HCAC tournament, as reported by the HCAC commissioner:
"Following an ejection, while a coach is permitted to remain at the field beyond the outfield fence they shall not communicate verbally, electronically or visually with the team or coaching staff. Failure to comply to NCAA rules require that the game be forfeited. As a result of this rule being violated by the ejected coach before and after warnings on multiple occasions following the ejection, we have decided to forfeit the game to Anderson University." (Public statement by HCAC on May 1).
“Despite this unfortunate event, Coach Bruder has achieved much in building Bluffton’s softball program during her nine years here. We wish her well in her future endeavors,” Phill Talavinia, athletics director.
Bluffton will soon begin the process of searching for a new head softball coach/HFSS faculty member.
