Almira Downey was a Beaverdam HS and Ohio Northern University graduate
Almira M. (Moser) Downey, 85, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby, Ohio. She was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Beaverdam to the late Clair and Olof (Karrick) Moser. On May 28, 1959, she married Russell E. Downey who preceded her in death on June 21, 1990.
Almira graduated from Beaverdam High School in 1947 and was an Ohio Northern University graduate. She taught in many schools in the Bluffton and Lima area before retiring. She spent weekends, especially Friday night “perch night”, helping Russ at the LK Restaurant in Bluffton and moved a few times with Russ in different business ventures.
They always moved back to Bluffton which was always “home”. She was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ.
Almira and Russ moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1988. She lived there until moving to Moore, Okla., in 1995 to be with her grandsons, Michael and Tyler. While in Moore she volunteered at Bryant Elementary School library, tutored several students and was active in the First Christian Church of Moore. She resided in Moore for 17 years.
She resided for the past three years with her son, Ron Downey, in Crestline, Ohio.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy (Benjamin) Corson of Moore, Okla.; a son, Ronnie (Cheryl) Downey of Crestline; a stepson, Brad Frink of Heber Springs, Ark.; grandsons, Michael and Tyler Corson of Moore, Okla., Douglas Downey of Crestline; step-granddaughters, Blair Frink of Toledo, Kate and Cody Shephard of Crestline.
She is preceded in death by a sister, Marcile Zeits, two brothers, Burke and Ronald Moser, and her second mother, Dessie (McCollough) Moser.
Interment will be in Emmanuel Cemetery in Bluffton at a later date.
