BLUFFTON, Ohio - Bluffton welcomed an all-star cast for its third annual Sommer Center Spiketacular on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015. The Beavers watched Augustana rally to knock off Alma in five sets before taking their shot at the Vikings in the 7:30 p.m. match.
The first set went back-and-forth with Bluffton holding a 19-17 lead late before Augustana rallied for the 25-23 victory. The Vikings drilled the home team 25-13 in set two before the Beavers returned the favor with a 25-14 thumping in the third set thanks to four kills from Jenny Brown (St. Marys/Memorial). The clincher was much like the lidlifter with Bluffton down just 21-20 before the visitors rolled off the last four points.
Seniors Kendra Parmenter (Grove City) and Brown knocked down 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Junior MacKenzie McFarlin (Ashland) chipped in with eight spikes against just one error. Freshman setter Erin Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) dished out 38 assists and she also picked up 10 digs. Sydney Mohler (Lima/Central Catholic) topped the Bluffton defense with 14 pickups while Lauren Weisgarber (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Valley) was also in double figures with 10.
Bluffton will have to massage its wounds in a hurry as the Beavers jump back into action at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, against a talented Heidelberg squad and again at 2 p.m. with national power DePauw University. Come out and support your Beavers on day two of the Sommer Center Spiketacular!
