Bulletin library October events
As a part of Banned Book Week (Sept. 27 through Oct.3), Bluffton Public Library will provide a free showing of the movie A Wrinkle in Time on October 1 at 3:30pm. This film is rated PG and will run until approximately 5:45pm. Celebrate your right to read!
Brain Builders meets this month on Oct. 1 and 22, both at 4pm. Brain Builders is a group for children grades K-5 who like to solve problems and experiment. Participants will use Legos and other materials to construct and create. All available spaces are now taken. However, there is space on the waiting list. Thank you for your understanding.
October is Fair Trade Month! Join us each Friday in Oct. to learn more about the Fair Trade products available. Fair Trade involves purchasing quality ingredients or goods at fair prices and preventing the exploitation of workers. The goal behind fair trade is sustainability— improving the quality of life in indigenous communities while preserving the planet's resources. This form of global trade benefits everyone.
Playgroup continues on Oct. 2, 16, and 30 at 10:30am. Make a play date with a friend to come play at the library, or join us to make new friends! We will provide the space and toys. Registration is required.
On Oct. 3, 17, and 31 at 10am, Paws to Read with Teddy! Stop by the library to read a book to Teddy, a certified therapy dog. Teddy loves hearing stories or just getting a friendly cuddle. This program supports literacy, the humane treatment of animals, and healthy stress relief practices.
Fall Storytime continues Mondays at 6:30pm and Tuesdays at 10am until Oct. 27. All available spaces are now taken, but those who are on our waiting list will be contacted if that changes. Thank you for your understanding.
The Dulcimers @ the Library continue to meet at the library on Tuesdays-- starting at 1pm. Come to any meeting to join.
Chill Zone continues on Oct. 6 and 13 at 3:30pm this month. This is a time for teens and tweens (6th grade and up) to snack, talk, play games, watch movies, and make crafts, and then Teen Read Week begins Oct. 19. Teens can celebrate with us during our Harry Potter Movie Marathon at 3:30pm each weekday between Oct. 19 and 27. Then, families can come to the library on Thursday, Oct. 29 to the Haunted Library Fun House from 6 to 7:30pm, put on by BPL’s Teen Volunteers.
The Gardeners of Bluffton/Pandora Area will meet this month on Oct. 6 at 6:30pm on the lower level of the library.
On Oct. 7, our monthly Noon Book Discussion group will meet to discuss the book A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. Members of this group must register to participate; if you have not registered yet, but would like to now, you can still be a part of the discussion of The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman on Nov. 4! Yoga Fit(c), a yoga-based exercise class, is offered at Bluffton Public Library on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. by BFR Sports & Fitness. Please contact BFR to register.
On Oct. 8 at 6:30pm, join us for a book signing with Deb Williams-Nevergall, the author of A Heart Never Forgets. Nevergall’s book offers a message of hope for families of all ages experiencing grief. Nevergall is a former resident of Bluffton and now resides in Findlay.
The Holiday Gift Silent Auction is coming in November! If you would like to donate a gift basket, or a giftable item that could be incorporated with other donations for a gift, you may drop your donation off at the front desk. Please let us know the fair market value to help us with starting bids and “Buy Now” pricing. All donations are tax deductible. Please turn in donations for the Silent Auction by Oct. 10.
Jammin' @ the Library will meet Oct. 12 and 26, both at 6pm. This ongoing program is an informal time for acoustic musicians to gather “song circle” style and share their love of music.
Tutor Me Paperless appointments are available for Oct. 14, 21, and 28. Registration is required for these one-on-one tech tutoring classes. Possible subjects include basic computer navigation, programs like Microsoft Word, and checking out eBooks utilizing the Ohio Digital Library. Mark your calendars for a special AFTER HOURS event on Sat., Oct. 24, at 6:30pm! BPL will open its doors again that day for a visit from ParaSisters, an all-female professional, paranormal investigation team based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. The ladies will discuss and reveal the evidence they found during their paranormal investigation of Bluffton Public Library at the end of September, and will be available for questions and conversation after their presentation. ParaSisters seeks to discover answers to the unknown, and to do so safely, with compassion, and with authenticity.
On Oct. 26 at 6pm, the Gluten and Food Allergy Support Group will meet on the lower level of the library. Come to any meeting to join!
This month, the library’s display case will feature a historical display entitled “Swiss Mennonite 175,” as well as some lovely art by Cory-Rawson elementary students in the children’s area display case. Library material displays will include Ohio Authors, library history for Family History Month, and more!
