Chamber's mayoral candidate forum Wednesday night in middle school
Bluffton voters have a chance to make an educated decision on who to vote for in Bluffton’s mayoral race on Nov. 3.
The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce invites voters to a mayoral candidate forum at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 28, in the Bluffton middle school cafetorium. Door open at 7 p.m.
Three candidates seek the mayor’s office in the Tuesday, Nov. 3, general election. The winner’s term begins Jan. 1, 2016. Candidates are Judy Augsburger, Jerry Cupples and David Steiner.
Augsburger, current mayor, was appointed to that spot in June 2014 following the resignation of then-mayor Dennis Gallant, who moved from Bluffton. She is running as an independent.
Cupples served on Bluffton council for several terms, although not currently. He is a previous council president. He is running as an independent.
Steiner is president of Bluffton council and has served on council for several terms. He is running as a Republican.
During the forum, each candidate will open with introductory remarks. Following that, Stanley Scott, Bluffton University political science professor, forum moderator, will lead a question and answer session. Each candidate will have 90 seconds to answer each question. Duane Bollenbacher will serve as the timer.
Questions for the forum were solicited from Bluffton chamber members. They will cover a range of issues related to candidates’ views involving Bluffton issues.
