March 16, 2016
BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University baseball team saw Ohio Northern put multiple runs on the board in six of the nine innings en route to a 16-2 Polar Bear victory on a windy Wednesday, March 16, 2016. Bluffton fell to 4-6 on the season, while ONU upped its mark to 7-4.
The Polar Bears took advantage of blustery conditions in the early going, opening up a 5-0 lead after two innings before three more tallies in the fourth and two in the sixth made the score 10-0.
The Beavers made use of a hit batter and two consecutive walks in the bottom of the sixth to score their first run of the game. Jason Colliver's (Beavercreek) bases loaded walk pushed home Austin Prosser (Galion) and TANNER Hamilton (Centerville) followed with a sacrifice fly to center, picking up Tommy Nobile (Reynoldsburg) for a 10-2 score heading to the seventh frame.
Three more runs by the visitors in each of the eighth and ninth innings added up to a 16-2 victory for the visitors from Ada.
Austin Prosser led the Bluffton offense with three hits and a run scored. Jaylen Von Sossan (Ottawa/Ottawa-Glandorf) fell to 1-1 after surrendering eight runs on nine hits in three innings of work. Corey Johnson (Waverly) tossed a scoreless seventh, needing just eight pitches to retire the side.
Bluffton will look to regroup when the Beavers go outside the NCAA for a doubleheader at Goshen College from the NAIA on Saturday, March 19. The first contest is slated for 1 p.m.
