BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team hosted Finlandia University for a rare Sunday contest at the Sears Complex on a warm September afternoon. The visiting Lions found the back of the net just over a minute into the contest en route to a convincing 5-0 victory. Bluffton slipped to 3-5 on the season, while Finlandia improved to 2-6 as they head back to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Alex Freeman scored at the 1:07 mark on a feed from Kasey Barber and the Lions added two more tallies in the first 29 minutes to take a 3-0 lead into the break. Jonathan Barnes netted his second goal of the match in minute 55 before Tyler Borkadi capped the scoring with just under 20 minutes to play, giving Finlandia a 5-0 shutout.
Grant Stutzman (Sugarcreek/Hiland) fired a team-high four shots with one on frame. The visitors finished with a 20-10 edge in shots, including 8-2 on target. Finlandia forced six more corner kicks (7-1) and the Lions also committed six more fouls (11-5). Matt Hardman-Zimmerman (Forest City, Penn.) collected five saves for the Beavers.
