Baseball drops 7-0 decision at Earlham
March 28, 2017
RICHMOND, Ind. -The Bluffton University baseball team was unable to capitalize on its momentum from the Anderson series victory last weekend as Earlham College pitched a 7-0 shutout at the Beavers on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Bluffton dropped to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the Heartland Conference, while the HCAC favorites upped their mark to 8-5 and 3-1 in the conference.
The Quakers tallied all they would need and the then some with a five-spot in the home half of the third. Five straight singles by Earlham followed by a three-run double from Cody Krumlauf made it 5-0 heading to the fourth inning. Earlham tacked on solo runs in the fifth and eighth for a 7-0 final score.
Bluffton managed only four hits, compared to 11 for the Quakers. Corey Johnson (Waverly) took the loss, going just three innings while allowing five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
A weekend series with HCAC-rival Manchester University is slated to start at noon on April 1 when the Beavers play game one of a Saturday doubleheader. The final contest against the Spartans is slated for noon on Sunday, April 2.
