September 3, 2017
OBERLIN, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's soccer team gave up just one tally late in the first half before Oberlin caught fire in the second stanza en route to the 7-1 victory on Sunday, Sept. 3. The Yeowomen stayed perfect at 2-0 while Bluffton slipped to 0-2 on the season.
The match was a scoreless tie through 43 minutes as Bluffton was on the verge of a second straight shutout half by the Beaver defense. However, at the 43:13 mark Brittany Mendez broke through for her first of three goals on the afternoon. Bluffton was still within reach, down 2-0 in minute 73, when the floodgates opened as Oberlin slammed in five shots over the next 14 minutes before Skylar Liming (St. Marys/Memorial) netted Bluffton's first goal of the season with just under two minutes to play.
The home team outshot Bluffton 30-5, including 17-1 on frame, while forcing six more corner kicks than the Beavers.
Bluffton travels to Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware on Wednesday, Sept. 6 for a 7 p.m. meeting with the Battling Bishops.
