Bluffton Kindergarteners learn about disabilities

Bluffton Kindergarteners learned first-hand about what it means to have a disability and how they can help and talk to people about their disabilities.

Devin Wolfe, a 14-year-old girl from Lima, born with Spina Bifida, visited last week with Bluffton Kindergarteners. Her visit was through the Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

What’s it like being in a wheelchair, the students wondered during a question time.

Their questions varied from "How do you ride a bike? If your wheelchair doesn't fit in your house, how do you get around? How do you play basketball? How do you play the iPad? Where do you sleep?"

Devin answered every question asked to her.

Devin’s visit is part of a program called APPLE (Ability Plus Potential to Excellence). Its purpose is to educate people of all ages that people with disabilities are people, too.
