Pirate baseball win vs. Riverdale

BLUFFTON – The Bluffton High School baseball team used two big offensive innings to defeat non-conference rival Riverdale Tuesday, April 29.

The Pirates scored four runs in the second inning, then plated seven runs in a fifth inning outburst to break a 4-4 tie and win going away.
The Pirates improved to 7-9 with the victory. Riverdale fell to 8-6 after the defeat.

Bluffton’s Blayne Hill knocked out a double and singled, and scored two runs. Senior Landen Worcester drove in three runs on two hits, and scored a run. He also stole three of the four bases the Pirates swiped.

Luke Jebsen stroked a two-run single. Jake Weaver drove in two runs with a hit and scored twice. Dylan Painter contributed a double and a single, two RBI and one run. 

Quinn Eachus singled and scored a run. Evan Speicher doubled, scored one run and drove in a run. 

Bluffton out-hit the Falcons 8-7, and smacked four doubles.

Bluffton drew five walks, while Pirate pitching issued four walks. Bluffton committed three errors, and the Falcons were guilty of four misplays that led to four unearned runs.  

Bluffton’s Keaton Howbert doubled in a run and scored once. He earned the win by hurling five innings and giving up two earned runs. Howbert scattered seven hits and two walks while striking out four.

Pirates Robby Taylor and Weaver each pitched an inning of scoreless relief with one whiff apiece.

Falcon Evan Reiter doubled, hit a single and scored two runs. Kydin Reed drove in three runs with two singles.

Falcon hurler Jackson Amrose gave up eight hits and seven earned runs in a complete-game losing effort. He struck out four and walked four Pirates over six innings.
