Greenhorn invites you to pre-opening event
Note: Greenhorn will hold its official public opening with established hours soon. Until then, it holds small and private events. Contact Jonah Agner at The Food Store for more details. Jonah Agner and Bob Bell of Findlay are the restaurant owners.
Greenhorn, a new Bluffton restaurant at 112 Vine St., – formerly Bystillwaters Bistro – plans a pre-opening event Saturday, May 18, with all-you-can-eat sweets and a concert by its very own house band.
The Saturday event will offer an array of desserts and coffee/tea. Tickets are $10, for an evening of food and music. Doors open at 8 p.m. and music begins at 8:30 p.m.
The band
The Greenhorn House Band includes musicians with a range of ages and influences that spans 40 years. They came together for a concert celebrating the work of Joni Mitchell, and have since branched off to explore wider reaches of jazz and pop, creating a cool, fun sound that is lively and familiar, with careful attention to detail.
Members of the group include:
• Dayton Fandray, who plays electric bass in bands based variously in New York, Los Angeles and Tucson. Two of his bands - gHosTcOw and the Mighty Maxwells - recorded albums that were regional hits in Arizona and New Mexico.
• Wendy Chappell-Dick plays the Appalachian dulcimer, and has favored historical, folk and political songs in her concerts.
• Lucas Harnish, a jazz sax player, has also played piano for 18 years, and has recently experimented with pop and jazz improvisation. Lucas is teaching piano and guitar.
• Jeffrey Jantzi Yoder plays guitar. After high school he attended Goshen College where he was guitarist for Lavender Jazz Band. After college he joined the Kansas Bible Company as rhythm guitarist and moved to Nashville, Tenn. He spent six years with this group, touring throughout the Midwest, East Coast, and southern U.S.
Look for the Greenhorn House Band to perform at the restaurant regularly throughout the summer, along with inviting special guests and other bands to share the stage.
