The Bluffton Story - part 12
Note: Bluffton sixth graders in the 1953-54 school year (graduating class of 1960) created a booklet titled "The Bluffton Story." The following article is part of that booklet, which is now in the history collection at the Bluffton Public Library. This series continues each week on the Icon.
"The Bluffton Slaw Cutter Company"
By Robert Kimmet and Gerald Tschiegg
One of the small industries of the town that was founded in 1915, by John Fett and Sam Kimmel, is the Bluffton Slaw Cutter Company.
This product has been sold in every state of the United States and in some foreign countries. Although it is a small industry, it is one of the leaders in its field as it is a hammered metal cutter that will not lose its sharpness.
The firm was started at the rear of the Fett Hardware and in 1921, it moved to its present location on North Main Street. There are three employees with Mr. Clair B. Fett as president of the company.
"The Boss Glove Factory"
By Karen Hall and Carol Triplehorn
The Glove Factory employs the second largest amount of people in Bluffton. Its employees are almost entirely women.
The Glove Factory sells its product on a national scale and under the leadership of Mr. Charles Lloyd, it has flourished many years.
