Beaver losses against Transylvania and Trine
The Beavers dropped a pair of four-setters to Transylvania and Trine on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2021, During Homecoming weekend. Bluffton fell to 8-12 overall and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference.
Transylvania took the first two sets convincingly before Bluffton showed out with a 25-18 victory in set three. The visitors fired back with a 25-20 win to take the Heartland Conference lidlifter for both teams.
Junior Maddie White (Ashland) just missed out on a triple double with nine kills, 19 assists and 10 digs. She hit .333 and added a service ace in match one. Kaylie Campbell (Camden/Preble Shawnee) was on fire with eight kills and no errors for a blistering .400 hitting percentage. She also stymied Transylvania at the net with four blocks.
Senior Brooke Kleman (Glandorf/Ottawa-Glandorf) led the back row with 16 digs and four kills on just eight attempts without an error. White, Elle Price (Pocono Pines, PA/Findlay) and Courtney Weekley (Butler/Clear Fork) all picked up double-digit digs. Price added 14 assists and Weekley fired four service aces for the home team.
Campbell continued her strong afternoon with 10 kills against the Thunder in the 5 p.m. showdown. Senior Cassidy Posey (Paulding) also drove home 10 winners at Trine's expense. White and Price doled out 14 and 12 assists, respectively.
Kleman was all over the floor with a match-high 23 digs. White added three blocks and Alysha Like (Mccomb) rifled six service aces at the Thunder. White and Weekley both chipped in seven digs apiece.
Bluffton will hit the road on Wednesday, Oct. 6, for a Heartland Conference tussle at North Manchester, Ind., where the Beavers take on Manchester University. The first serve is slated for 6 p.m. at Stauffer-Wolfe Arena.
