Bluffton girls’ defense shuts down Arcadia

By Cort Reynolds

The Bluffton girls basketball team rode a strong first half to easily handle youthful Arcadia 47-11 in non-conference girls basketball action Saturday afternoon, December 18.

Bluffton led 24-6 after a first period onslaught and was never threatened. The hosts held the Lady Redskins scoreless in the second quarter as they extended the margin to 35-6.

The Lady Pirates improved to 6-3 with the lopsided win. The Arcadia girls fell to 0-8 with the defeat.

Pirate senior guard Sami Scoles led the way with 17 points and three triples.

Classmate Kylie Monday added 10 points on the strength of two treys. Scoles and Monday each netted eight points in the big first period. Kylie Stackhouse also tallied all six of her points in the decisive opening stanza.

Eight Pirates scored in the blowout win.

The Lady Redskins sank just four field goals, hitting merely one two-pointer and three trifectas against the stingy Pirate defense. Arcadia did not attempt any charity stripers.

The Pirate girls connected on 18 field goals, including 12 two-pointers and six triples. They converted all five of their free throw tries (100 percent).
