Bluffton boys 2nd at regionals; relay and individual Pirates advance to state

The Bluffton boys track and field team finished a strong second in the Div. III region 10 meet Wednesday and Friday at Port Clinton.
Several Pirates also qualified for the state meet June 3-4 in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at Ohio State University in Columbus. Top four regional finishers qualified for the state event.
BOYS RESULTS
Bluffton junior Landon Armstrong won the 800-meter run, while classmate Eden Antrim took first in the boys 1600 meters.
The Bluffton 4x400 relay foursome came in first as well Friday after taking third in the preliminary heats Wednesday.
Ethan Bogart crossed the line second in the 300 hurdles. Junior Bri Taber finished second in the girls pole vault.
Senior Trey Boblitt also finished second in the high jump, while teammate Wyatt Lovell came in sixth.
The Pirate 4x800 relay quartet finished second.
Erik Nygaard took fourth in the 3200 meters, while Haydon Dearth ended up fourth in the long jump.
GIRLS RESULTS
Pirate freshman June Essinger finished seventh in the 1600 meters. She also ran the first leg for the Pirate sixth-place 4x800 relay girls quartet.
TEAM RESULTS
Columbus Grove won the boys team title with 83 points, followed by Bluffton in second (68.5).
Colonel Crawford captured the girls regional championship with 84 points, followed by Margaretta (68). The Pirate girls tied Riverdale for 16th place with 13 points.
STATE MEET
Div. III track events start at 9:30 a.m. with the 4x800 relay race finals in Columbus on Friday, June 3.
