Pirate baseball defeats Bearcats

Playing at home, the Bluffton High School baseball team beat Spencerville convincingly 6-2 in a Northwest Conference baseball game Thursday evening, April 27.
The Pirates improved to 8-7 overall and 4-2 in the NWC, good for third place in the league, with the victory. The struggling Bearcats dropped to 1-15 overall and 1-5 in the NWC after the defeat.
Bluffton led 2-0 after the first inning and never trailed. The Pirates tallied two more runs in the fourth frame to go ahead, 4-0.
The Bearcats plated single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. But Bluffton added two more insurance runs in the home fifth to win decisively.
Tyler Cupples pitched a complete-game six-hitter to lead Bluffton to victory. He struck out three and walked one while allowing just one earned run.
Braeden Jordan collected a hit, a run and one RBI. Quinn Eachus singled, stole two bases, drew a walk and scored a run.
Landen Worcester amassed two hits, two runs, one RBI and one stolen base with one walk. Kerry Wright and Jacob Granger each drove in one run. Gavin Bogart had one hit and scored a run.
The Pirates were out-hit by the Bearcats, 6-5. Bluffton swiped seven bases and left five runners on base. The Pirates made four errors to one by the Bearcats.
