Leland W. Wilkins was an Army veteran of the Korean War
Leland W. Wilkins, 95, passed away December 22, 2023, at Willow Ridge-Betty House.
Leland was born September 10, 1928 in Rawson, OH, to Ira and Emma (Tschiegg) Wilkins who preceded him in death. On October 24, 1952 he married Joan (Niswander) Wilkins who preceded him in death on October 1, 2018.
Leland was a 1948 graduate of Mt. Cory High School. He was a proud Army veteran of the Korean War where he served as a Corporal. He retired from Phillips of Ottawa after 37 years of dedication. He enjoyed golfing and trap shooting. He was a talented woodworker having cut thousands of board feet for painting projects at the posey patch. He was a dedicated family man, who, in addition to his daughter and grandson, loved spending time with his two grand-dogs, Gracie and Lucy.
He is survived by his daughter, Kay (Jerry Shafer) Woolley of Mt. Cory; grandson, Seth Woolley of Mt. Cory; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by five siblings. Myrl Wilkins, Helen Edinger, Francis Wilkins, Alvin Wilkins, and Kenneth Wilkins.
The family would like to extend a thank you to all the staff at Willow Ridge-Betty House who took such great care of dad; and became family to all of us. We would also like to give a thank you to the caring hospice staff who provided extra care in the last few weeks, and who provided comforting words to us as well.
Services will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services-Bluffton with Pastor Wade Melton to officiate the service. Burial will be in Clymer Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 27, 2023, 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
