Pirate softball eliminated in sectional final

ROCKFORD __ The visiting Bluffton High School softball team lost 10-0 to Parkway in sectional final Div. III action Wednesday, May 8.
The Pirate girls fell to 2-8 with the defeat. Bluffton was unable to collect a hit in the shortened five-inning game.
Top seed Parkway improved to 19-3 with the win, and advanced to the Lima Bath district semifinals next week.
The Panthers scored four runs in the bottom of the first frame and never were threatened. Parkway tallied single runs in the third and fourth innings to stretch their lead to 6-0.
Parkway then plated four runs in the fifth frame with one out to invoke the 10-run mercy rule.
Brittyn Bruns doubled twice and singled to ignite the Panther offense from the leadoff spot. She also scored two runs.
Emma Temple hit a two-run homer and scored three runs. Panther starting pitcher Bryn Schoenleben hit a double, singled and amassed three RBI.
Emma Green and Faith Maple walked for Bluffton.
Parkway out-hit Bluffton 12-0 and stranded seven runners. The Pirates drew two walks and left two on base. Bluffton made three errors while Parkway committed no miscues.
Pirate freshman Haelee Rayle pitched the first four innings. She gave up 11 hits and nine earned runs with one walk. Ashley Fleece got one out in relief.
Three Panther pitchers combined to pitch five no-hit innings, striking out seven and walking two. Schoenleben and Henkle each hurled two hitless frames. Bruns struck out two in pitching the fifth, while Henkle whiffed four.
