APRIL 28 MEDIA RELEASE__Bluffton Public Library May 2025 programs and services

Noon Book Group (R) meets Wednesday, May 7. The group will discuss Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q. Sutanto. The book that will be discussed June 4 is Tom Lake by Anne Patchett.  Stop by the library front desk to register and pick up the book, and to receive email updates.

Not@Noon Book Group (R) will meet Thursday, May 8 at 6:00 p.m. at the library with the same monthly title as Noon Book Group. For the months of May, June, August and September, this group will be held at this evening time slot the Thursday evening after Noon Book Group. Depending on level of interest, the library may continue to host evening discussions. The June title will be available for checkout starting May 7.

Galley Book Group - Mixed Titles (R) will meet on Thursday, May 15 at 6:00 p.m. This month’s discussion will be of an assortment of advance reader copies of books provided by publishers Kensington, Simon & Schuster, and W.W. Norton & Company, scheduled to be published May 2025 or later. Register for the discussion at the library front desk, pick one book from the Galley Box, read as soon as you are able (optimal: 1 week), and return. Repeat as desired until the discussion date, and always bring the book back and return it to the box so that someone else may read it. At the discussion, each person will briefly talk about each book read and give their own rating.

Medicare 101 (R) will be presented by the Allen County Council on Aging on Tue., May 20 at 6:00 p.m. in the lower level of the library. Please call or stop by the library to register.

The Friends of the Bluffton Public Library invite you to a Spring Tea & Silent Auction ($), which will be held on Tuesday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m. Guest speaker will be local author David Essinger. Tickets are $20 and can be paid for and picked up at the Bluffton Public Library front desk. Cash or check accepted. Limited seating is available, so be sure to stop by the library soon to purchase your ticket(s).

LEGO Library Showcase is BACK: The library is always excited to be showing local residents’ LEGO builds.  The LEGO builds can be sets or your own creations.   Register at the Main Desk and this event is open to ALL ages. Bring in your builds starting May 1. The library will display the builds through July in conjunction with our 2025 Summer Read program “Color Your World”. Pick up will be August 4-9.  

3D Printer is available - Check out our new Bambu Lab X1-Carbon 3D printer.  Suggested donations are 50-cents per hour of requested print to help cover the cost of the filament.

Hummin' & Strummin' Song Circle will be held Mondays, May 5, 12, and 19 at 6:00 p.m. This is a relaxed, song-circle style music session and anyone is welcome to join or listen in. Bring your acoustic instrument, voice, or listening ears!

The next Mobile Health Clinic will be held on Thu., May 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. All services are provided by individuals with the Ohio Northern University Healthwise program. This clinic includes free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol (please fast for 12 hours to participate in cholesterol or blood sugar screening.) Participants may speak with ONU Healthwise students and staff about their results or concerns, and even receive referrals to area doctors. *Note: Mobile Health Clinic Weather Policy: If the Bluffton or Ada school district have a weather delay or cancellation, Mobile Health Clinic will be cancelled that day. 

Watercolor Workshop: Sloth (R)($) will be held Thu., May 8 from 2:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. Local artist Jeanne Crumrine will teach on the lower level of the library. Walk away with your own watercolor piece of art, complete with mat! There is a $10 supply fee at the door (cash only please), and advance registration is required as space is limited. Open to adults, and teens and children with an accompanying adult.

“Mother’s Day Bouquet” Acrylic Paint Class with Bluffton Art Company (R)($) will be held Tue., May 13 @ 6:00 p.m. Register at the library and come to the program prepared to try your hand at acrylic painting. Cost is $15 per person and will be taken at the door (cash only, please). Open to adults, and teens and children with an accompanying adult.

Swiss Family Migration with Fred Steiner and the Bluffton Ohio Historical Society will be presented on Wed., May 21 @ 6:00 p.m. in the lower level of the library. This presentation will focus specifically on the Althaus/Amstutz Family, the Althaus General Store and Hahn Music Store. Registrations are recommended.

Playgroup is held most Fridays at 10 a.m. Make a playdate and the library will provide the space and toys!

Open Chess on Tuesdays The library has an area designated on the Main Floor for open chess from 5:30-7:30 p.m. every Tuesday the library is open. Bring your own board or use one of the library’s! All ages are welcome!

Color Our World - Summer Read is coming! Get ready to have fun reading and listening to great books, and at our library events this summer! We’re working hard to fill the calendar (and the prize shelves!) with something for every age, and will be in schools this month! We are having Early Registration this year - register starting May 12 at the front desk of the library!

Attention Homeschoolers, s presentation all about the “Color Our World” Summer Read is available for all ages - please register for either Wednesday, May 21 at 10 a.m. OR Friday, May 23 at 3 p.m.

Summer Volunteer Opportunities are coming up for teens ages 13+! Attend one (or both) of our meetings in May to find out all about what’s happening this summer and how you can get involved! There are two meetings in May: Friday, May 9 at 3:15 p.m. and Tuesday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m.

Display case: Art Projects by the Spelman Kids

Bluffton Public Library will be closed Monday, May 26th for Memorial Day. Due dates will be adjusted accordingly.

At-Home COVID Tests are available at the Library.  If you have been exposed to COVID-19, please call to schedule curbside pickup.
