LWV hosts Issue 1 information session, Sept. 9
Proposed Citizens Not Politicians Amendment
LIMA—The League of Women Voters of the Lima Area will sponsor a public presentation on the proposed Citizens Not Politicians Constitutional Amendment, which will be on the Ohio ballot in November. The presentation will take place at the Lima Public Library Memorial Room (1st floor) on Monday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m.
Mia Lewis, Associate Director of Common Cause Ohio, will explain Issue 1, which would end extreme partisan gerrymandering in Ohio. Under the proposed Amendment, the power to draw legislative districts would be transferred from politicians in the state legislature to an independent Ohio Citizen Redistricting Commission made up of Republican, Democratic and independent citizens who broadly represent the different geographic areas and demographics of the state. The Amendment’s goal is to draw legislative districts that fairly represent Ohio voters.
The ballot initiative is endorsed by The League of Women Voters Ohio. The League is a non-partisan organization dedicated to voter education and advocacy.
