P-G boys basketball win vs. Cory-Rawson
By Matt M. Stutz
The Pandora-Gilboa High School boy’s basketball team stretched their winning streak to three games on December 14, as they easily doubled up on Cory-Rawson, winning 63-31 in non-league action. The Hornets (0-5) are still looking for their first win of the young season.
Things were competitive early, as P-G jumped ahead just 19-12 at the end of one quarter of action. P-G junior Cory Gerten got hot early and finished with eight first quarter points. Things quickly got out of control from there, as the Rocket’s defense held the Hornets to single digit scoring in each of the final three quarters, taking a 36-20 halftime advantage.
P-G continued to pour it on after halftime, staking claim to a 52-28 3rd quarter advantage, as both teams emptied their benches over the final eight minutes.
The Rockets were led in scoring by senior Lane Lee, who knocked down four three pointers on his way to a game high 21 points.
Gerten’s hot start cooled off a bit, but he still hit double figures, finishing his night with 14 points.
Senior Matt Maag came off the bench for the Rockets to just miss the double digit mark, tallying 9 points.
Junior Cam Verhoff added 7 points, also canning a three-point shot, while sophomore Grady Kempf nailed a second quarter three-pointer on his way to 5 total points.
Austin Maag hit two field goals in the second quarter for his 4 points and Adam Buell hit three free throws throughout the middle two quarters for his 3 points.
P-G also easily won the JV game by a final of 35-4.
