The Shannon Sodbusters will hitch up their horses and head to Lima on Sunday, Aug. 21, to face their second adversaries of the season at the Allen County Fair.

Coming off a July 2 victory, the Sodbusters will play a newly organized team, the Solar Refiners in this battle. Organized by Husky Refinery employee Dan Groman, this matchup is a part of the Husky Refinery's celebration for their 125th year of refining crude oil in Lima. The Solar Refinery had Base Ball Teams in the late 1800s and on through the 1900s.

Calling all artists, musicians, and anyone wanting to share in the celebration of peace... First Mennonite Church is sponsoring a Peace Weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 10-11.

On Sept. 10, Saturday morning a Peace Festival will be held in the parking lot of FMC with face-painting and other activities for children, live music, a mural to add to, informational displays, and international clothing to try on with your families for a photo, see books on display, all during the farmer's market from 9:30-12.

The Internal Revenue Service today announced that interest rates will decrease for the calendar quarter beginning Oct. 1, 2011. The rates will be:

. Three (3) percent for overpayments [two (2) percent in the case of a corporation];
. Three (3) percent for underpayments;
. Five (5) percent for large corporate underpayments; and
. Zero and one-half (0.5) percent for the portion of a corporate overpayment exceeding $10,000.

Donna Warren

Donna Warren, R.N., of Bluffton, is the employee of the month in August at the Mennonite Memorial Home.

She has worked at Mennonite Memorial Home since 1992. Her peers know her as caring and ready to assist residents wherever she can. Her supervisor states that Donna is a dependable and trustworthy employee who shows care and compassion to the elders that live at MMH.
