Register by April 24 / Tournament April 30

Bluffton Family Recreation and Southgate Lanes are collaborating on a cornhole tournament to be held at the bowling alley, 9700 N Dixie Hwy, at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30.

The double elimination tournament is $50 per team with prizes for first and second places. Registration deadline is April 24.

M. Maeola McClain–Fett, age 89, of Bluffton, Ohio, and formerly of Upper Sandusky, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 2:45 a.m. at the Independence House of Fostoria.

Maeola was born on February 18, 1933 in Marseilles Township, Wyandot County to Lawrence and Edna (Carothers) Arnold.  She married Charles McClain on October 17, 1952 and he passed away on April 3, 1984. Maeola then married Maurice “Morris” Fett on June 14, 1997 and he passed away on October 14, 2009.

April is National Poetry Month, April 22 is Earth Day and April 17 is International Haiku Poetry Day. In celebration of all three, The Quarry Farm Nature Preserve and Conservation Farm is offering the annual "Haiku Hike" on Saturday, April 23, from 1 to 2 p.m.

"We will walk the trails, look for wildlife and—you guessed it—try our hands at writing haikus about nature in Spring," said Anne Coburn-Griffis. "Last year we wrote seven in an hour."

The surging Bluffton High School varsity softball team won its fifth straight game by decisively beating host Leipsic 7-1 on Charlie Bennettt Field Thursday evening, April 21.

The Pirate girls plated single runs in each of the second and third frames. Bluffton extended its lead to 5-0 with a three-run fifth.

The visitors tacked on two insurance runs in their seventh and last at bat. 

Leipsic plated its lone run in the home sixth on a solo home run by losing pitcher Jocelyn Hermiller.

ODOT District 1 reports that during the week of April 25:

State Route 696 between the village of Beaverdam and the Putnam County line will have lane restrictions for pavement repairs.
