Bluffton youngsters in the Bluffton Public Library summer reading program celebrated the Japanese "Tanabata" star festival on July 13. In Japan, the event is July 7, according to Teri Sato, who helped coordinate the event at the library.
During "Tanabata" children will write wishes on strips of colorful papers and hang them on bamboo trees, which are to be put outside at night under the stars so the stars will make the wishes come true.
Local artist Oscar Velasquez will offer a third drawing and painting course at Bluffton Public Library for youth and adults.
Youth classes (grade school through junior high) will meet at the library on Tuesdays for five weeks from 6-8 p.m., beginning July 19. Adult classes will meet at the library for five weeks on Thursdays from 6-8 p.m., beginning July 21. No prior experience is necessary.
The Bluffton Public Library has made a flyer available to persons interested in local history and genealogy material. The flyer lists all materials housed in the Shannon Room, which are non-circulating. Persons with questions should ask the library staff.
The sources include print, microfilm, vertical and Internet sources.
A printer-friendly copy of the flyer is available at the bottom of this story.
