Bluffton University is offering a graduate-level course which will consider the purpose of education in the United States and the ways it has changed over time. The class will run Jan. 12–March 4, 2022.

Bluffton University will host the Holiday Collage Concert at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 5 in Yoder Recital Hall.

Bluffton’s Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, University Chorale and Camerata Singers will perform Christmas music including “Carol of the Bells,” “Sleighride,” “Dormi, Jesu!” and “Wexford Carol.”

This event is open to the public at no charge. Masks are required inside all Bluffton University buildings at this time. Masks are optional outside.

Bluffton University will host a closing reception for artist Justin Henry Miller at 1 p.m. on Dec. 5. Miller’s artwork is currently on display in the Grace Albrecht Gallery of Sauder Visual Arts Center. It will remain on display through Dec. 5.

The “Otherworldland” exhibit features oil paintings and pieces.

Miller’s artwork has been described as surreal as it references, but bends, reality. Conceptually, the work delves into his interest into the closing gap between science fiction and science fact.

Bluffton University will present its 126th performance of Handel’s “Messiah” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, in Yoder Recital Hall. While tickets are free, seats need to be reserved at www.bluffton.edu/tickets or at Marbeck Center.

Dr. Bo Young Kang, director of choral activities, will conduct the oratorio. Soloists along with the Bluffton Choral Society including students, faculty, staff and community members will be accompanied by an orchestra.

The Lion and Lamb Peace Arts Center at Bluffton University recently celebrated its 35th anniversary with an open house. Also this fall, center director Louise Matthews resigned after working there for 26 years.

A committee of faculty and staff is evaluating the direction of the Lion and Lamb Peace Arts Center, as part of “We Flourish,” the university’s 5-year strategic planning project.

Bluffton University will host a Jazz Ensemble concert from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, in Yoder Recital Hall.

Under the direction of Dr. Bo Young Kang, the first half of the concert will feature vocalists performing a variety of jazz, movie and musical pieces composed by Cole Porter, David Foster, Irving Kahal and more.

Conducted by Dr. Andrew Lieberman, the Jazz Ensemble will perform two classic Count Basie tunes written by Sammy Nestico as well as two modern jazz selections written by Michael Kocour and Maria Schneider.
