Through the Bluffton Bread Company, Bluffton University students are learning through experience. Bread will be baked by students and mailed fresh to your door.
“God’s Calling” was explored during Bluffton University’s spring 2022 Spiritual Life Week, held March 14-18, 2022. Students considered their vocations within a context of Christian vocation with Kathy Dickson ’03, Spiritual Life Week guest speaker and director of vocational discernment and community engagement at Methodist Theological School of Ohio. To guide them, students reflected on the scripture 1 Samuel 3:10b “Speak Lord, for your servant is listening,” which was chosen by a student planning committee.
Bluffton University will host a Vocal Chamber and Jazz Ensemble concert from 2:30-4:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, in Yoder Recital Hall.
Under the direction of Dr. Bo Young Kang, the concert vocalists will perform a variety of songs from musicals including “Rent” and “The Count of Monte Cristo.” A capella selections from the animated movie “Zootopia” will also be featured.
As director of Musselman Library, Carrie Phillips ’99 believes even the “rarest collections are meant to be studied.”
However, the oldest Bible in Bluffton University’s Musselman Library, dating to the 16th century, was nearly relegated to restricted status in the archives to prevent further wear, tear and damage.
Instead, Phillips applied for and was awarded nearly $5,000 for an Ohio LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) Preservation Grant for a conservation treatment of Bluffton’s 1531 Froschauer Bible.
During rehearsals of Agatha Christie’s famous murder mystery “The Mousetrap,” Dr. Melissa Friesen favorite refrain is “dun, dun, dun.” That’s because twists and turns abound in this play as a blizzard traps seven strangers in Monkswell Manor Guest House amid news of a murderer on the loose.
“The audience doesn’t know who the murderer is or who the next potential victim may be,” said Friesen, professor of theatre and communication and director of the play. “Agatha Christie throws in all sorts of red herrings and vague descriptions. It’s such a fun play.”
During Melissa Florer-Bixler’s Keeney Peace Lecture at Bluffton University, the pastor and author addressed what she described as some of the most pressing concerns for society today: third way politics, cancel culture and polarization.
