Beaver senior earns national scholar-athlete recognition

Russell Krouse, a senior offensive tackle on the Bluffton University football team, was among 127 candidates this fall for the National Football Foundation (NFF) National Scholar-Athlete Awards.

Krouse, a marketing major from Huntsville, Ohio, was one of only 30 candidates from NCAA Division III teams and the only one from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Senior art exhibit opens Nov. 29

Mollie Landry and Kati Skon will showcase their artwork in their Bluffton University Senior Exhibition, opening Tuesday, Nov. 29, in the Grace Albrecht Gallery of Sauder Visual Arts Center. The exhibit, which continues through Dec. 13, is free and open to the public, as is a gallery reception for the artists from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4.

University Christmas concert Dec. 4

Three Bluffton University choirs will headline "A Festival of Lessons and Carols," the university's annual Christmas choral concert, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in Yoder Recital Hall.

The program is designed around a historical structure of Scripture readings and Christmas carols. The readings, taken from prophetic writings about the Messiah's coming and from the Christmas story, are interspersed with various Christmas pieces.

Bluffton women move into Tip-Off finals with 103-44 win over OSU-Lima

The Bluffton University women's basketball team started the 2011-12 campaign with a dominating win over Ohio State-Lima on Friday, Nov. 18, in the first round of the fourth annual Bluffton Tip-Off Tournament.

Ten Bluffton University football players were recently honored by the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference for their play during the 2011 season. The athletes were selected by the Heartland Conference coaches following the completion of the regular season.

Gospel gathering

About 200 voices came together at Bluffton University Nov. 12 for the finale of both a gospel music concert and a weeklong, campus celebration of gospel titled "Blended Voices: Music and Worship in the Gospel Tradition."

Participating choirs included the Bluffton University Gospel Choir, a 65-member group of community, as well as campus, representatives directed by Dr. Crystal Sellers, an assistant professor of music; three other campus choral groups; four choirs from area churches; and the Columbus, Ohio-based Raise Productions Choir, led by Dr. Raymond Wise.
