Special events for early birds and night owls

By Paula Scott

Even if your family no longer has youngsters in school, it's pretty hard to miss the transition from summer to school year in Bluffton--both the Bluffton Schools and Bluffton University start classes on Monday. Fortunately, this weekend provides plenty of leisure activities to distract us from the upcoming transition.

The Pantasia Steel Band will play at a free concert at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 27 at Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 W. Elm St., Bluffton. Bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on and dress for the weather.

The Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio Service Group will serve Bluffton Dari Freeze ice cream, compliments of the Bluffton Dari Freeze.

Special  thanks go to Everence, which is sponsoring the concert. MMH has hosted the annual  “Concert on the Lawn” since 2005.

The United Way of Greater Lima will hold the 7th annual Day of Caring on Friday, September 8 at 7:30 a.m. at the Ohio State University Lima, Cook Hall Gymnasium, 4240 Campus Drive, Lima, 45804.

Nearly 375 volunteers will come together to make an impact by volunteering at United Way partner agencies and other non-profits around Allen County.

FINDLAY— Get out in the parks and go fishing as a family. Learn about the basics of fishing by trying to catch some fish that live in Giertz Lake. All skill levels are welcome. A fishing pole will be provided or bring your own. Corn and hotdogs will be available for bait or bring your own lucky lure! All participants who are 16 years of age or older will need a valid Ohio Fishing License.

Don’t touch that dial! Don’t leave town this weekend without first considering your Bluffton options including a street fair celebrating the 150th anniversary of St. John’s UCC and the introduction of Bluffton History Day.

If you’ve ever needed a wanted poster with your photo on it, Saturday is your chance to fulfill this unusual dream.

One feature of Bluffton History Day on Saturday, Aug. 12, is the availability of a print-on-site Dillinger wanted poster with your photo printed on it.
