Cakewalkin' Jass Band performs May 20 at First Presbyterian, Findlay

The Cakewalkin' Jass Band will present an afternoon of New Orleans style jazz, blues, and gospel at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, in the Great Room at First Presbyterian Church, 2330 S. Main St., Findlay. The concert, the final in the Church's 32nd Concert Series, is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be received.

A Toledo institution, the Cakewalkin' Jass Band was organized in 1967. After playing three short night club jobs and one wedding, the band opened at Tony Packo's Cafe in 1968.

Apollo plant sale starts May 8

Beginning Tuesday, May 8, the Apollo Career Center Floral Design/Interiors program will hold its annual bedding plant sale. The program will have its greenhouses full of annuals and perennials ready for planting.

Julian Harnish piano recital May 13

Julian Harnish, Bluffton High School student, will perform a Mother's Day piano recital at Yoder Recital Hall at 7 p.m., Sunday, May 13.

He will play works by Bach, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy and Mozart. The recital is free and open to the public. Donations will be taken for the Bluffton Food Pantry.

Trout derby chicken barbecue May 6

Bluffton Sportsmen's Club will hold a chicken barbecue during this year's trout derby on Sunday, May 6, according to Tom Augsburger of the club.

Serving starts at 11 a.m. Pickup is at the Sportmen's Club depot on Spring Street. Dinners may be eaten at the derby or take home.

One-half barbecue chicken with green beans, potato, salad and roll is $7. Tickets are available from club members or on the day of the derby while supply lasts.

Wendy Chappell-Dick performs Friday night at the Meeting Place on Market

Wendy Chappell-Dick of Bluffton will perform a free concert she titles "Garden Songs" from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, April 27, at the Meeting Place on Market, Lima.

The Meeting Place will offer a $5 dessert buffet (includes gluten free baking) during the performance.

Chappell Dick said that the performance includes folk music about green stuff from Appalachian Mountain.

"The music includes songs to singer-songwriter favorites," she said. "Come hear music to entertain, entrance and inspire you in your growing season."

You may hold a garage sale with Relay for Life on May 5

Bluffton Relay for Life is having a garage sale Saturday, May 5, behind the farmers market in the high school parking lot, according to Lynda Best.

Anyone may rent a spot for their own garage sale at the event for $10. The $10 fee goes to Relay. Anyone wishing to donate items for the garage sale may call Best at 419-358-7593 or Jeanie 419-358-7613. no clothes please.
