Maxine McCafferty was a 1942 Pandora High School graduate

Maxine J. McCafferty, 90, died July 24, 2014, at 9:31 p.m. at her daughter's residence in Lima. She was born March 26, 1924, in Riley Township-Pandora to the late Clarence and Eddyth (West) Fridley. On Nov. 20, 1942, she married William J. "Bill" McCafferty who preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 2002.

She had worked in the cafeteria at Bluffton Elementary School and had previously worked at Triplett Corp., Bluffton. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Bluffton Senior Citizens. She was a 1942 graduate of Pandora High School.

Edna Emans was retired from Lima Memorial Hospital; also worked at Bluffton Hospital

Edna L. Emans, rural Lafayette, died at 8:56 p.m. July 17, 2014, at the age of 101 at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton, where she had been for the last four weeks.  She was born June 16, 1913, in Gilboa to Henry and Uzela Ramsey Fairchild. On Oct. 5, 1931, she married Glen Emans in Covington, Ky., and he preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1999.

Rachel Shaw was a former employee of Triplett Corp.

Rachel Shaw, 80, died on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 4:20 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

She was born on November 28, 1933 in Silver Creek, Ohio to Raymond and Zelma (Case) Vermillion and they preceded her in death. On November 15, 1953 she married Robert Shaw and he survives in Ada.

Ralph Carmichael served in the British Army in India during WWII

Ralph Carmichael, 90, died on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Shady Lawn Retirement Community in Dalton, Ohio.

Ralph was born in Hull, England, on May 1, 1924, to Gladys and Harry Carmichael. During WWII, he served in the 2nd. Battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment of the British Army in India. His regiment fought in the Battle of Imphal in Northern India with the 14th. Army. He also served in Penang, Malaya, before returning to England after the war with the rank of Sergeant.

Vera Core spent much of her career in Main Street businesses; was former senior citizens director

Vera Kathryn Gratz Core died at 12:10 a.m., July 9, 2014, at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born on June 5, 1917, in Bluffton to the late Ernest and Lena Boegli Gratz. On Nov. 28, 1937 she was married to George Richard Core who died Feb. 24, 1997.

Paul Reichenbach was owner of Reichenbach Lumber

Paul F. Reichenbach died in his home on July 3, 2014.

He was born Jan. 26, 1928, in Pandora to the late Hiram and Edna (Zimmerman) Reichenbach.  On July 25, 1948, he married M. Jean (Burkholder) Reichenbach, who survives in Bluffton.

He was a 1945 graduate of Bluffton High School and served in the United States Army.  He worked in the lumber business for many years beginning at Steinman Brothers Lumber, then at Tuttle Lumber and finally as owner of Reichenbach Lumber in Bluffton.  In retirement Paul worked in real estate for a time.
