Gene Stuckey was former operations manager of Hancock County Fair

Gene A. Stuckey, 72, of Delaware Twp., Hancock County, Ohio, died at 4:36 a.m.
on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 9, 1941 to the late Dale S. and A. Marie (Lane) Stuckey in Delaware Twp. On Sept. 2, 1960, he married Connie J. Smith and she survives.

Fairy Mesler 1923- 2014

Fairy E. Mesler, 90, died April 17, 2014, at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. She was born Sept. 8, 1923 in Bluffton to the late Fred and Esma (Burkholder) Bronson. She married Harvey Mesler and he preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1993.

Mary Badertscher was a retired teacher

Mary Badertscher, 66, died on April 3, 2014. Mary (Bartholomew) was born in Vicksburg, Michigan, the middle of five siblings, includnig Russell, Jerry, Becky and Jim.

After college she moved to Metamora, Mich., where she worked as a home economics teacher and met Dean, her husband of 42 years. After retirement, the Badertschers moved to Bluffton, Ohio.

She is survived by her husband, her son Pete and his wife Sara, and her two grandchildren, Xandra and Roswen. Mary was a retired school teacher, having taught kindergarten and home economics as well as GRADS.

James Suter memorial service April 12

A memorial service for James R. Suter will begin  at 11 a.m. on  Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the First Mennonite Church, Bluffton. A fellowship meal will follow the service.

Dorothy Williams taught school for 38 years; volunteered with many organizations

Dorothy Williams, 94, of Bluffton died at 2:50 p.m. April 2, 2014, at Smithville-Western Care Center, Wooster.  She was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Pandora to the late Christian and Clara Suter Locher. 

Mrs. Williams was a retired teacher and guidance counselor, having been an educator for 38 years, the last 26 with Lima Public Schools. She also taught in Colorado, Wyoming, Washington, Nevada and American Dependent Schools of Japan.

Alice Frey, born in China, family escaped from Russia to U.S.

Alice  Frey, 85, died on March 27, 2014, at 9:30 am at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.  Alice was born February 1, 1929 in Harbin, China to parents Aron and Agnes (Wiebe) Warkentin, who were fleeing Russia for religious freedom. On January 31, 1949, she married Lonas Frey Jr. who preceded her in death on November 27, 2009.

Alice had been a homemaker. She and her family also owned and operated Ohio Dusting Co. (Aerial Application) until 1986. She attended St. John Mennonite Church, Pandora. Alice and her husband traveled to many places, often in their own airplane.
