Signs national letter of intent at Division I school

Earlier this week, DeAndre Nassar signed a national letter of intent to wrestle at Cleveland State University.

DeAndre was the Division III State Champion in the 182-pound weight class. He is a three-time state qualifier, a four-time NWC champion, and an All-NWC football player.

DeAndre is an active tutor at the elementary school, and participates in the school choir. He plans to major in criminology this fall at Cleveland State University.

"Looking back, I don't care about perfect attendance or whatever. What is important is something that I didn't do enough of - be a nice person." 

As this year's graduation fast approaches, the Icon looks to past valedictorians of Bluffton High School to inspire this year's graduates as they set sail on adventures unknown.

The Icon interviewed Tatyana Shekochikhin, a valedictorian of the class of 2003.

What activities were you involved in as a BHS student? Feel free to include all your extra-curricular activities, even if they're from church or other organizations, not just school.

"Don’t be pressured to pursue a 4-year degree just because your friends are."

What advice do you have for the BHS graduates of 2019? What would you tell your newly-graduated self, as you left the high school building after graduation day?

"I can attribute successes in my current career to lessons I learned from Mrs. Goode."

Bluffton High School's Graduation ceremonies will be on Saturday, May 25 at 7 p.m. in the high school gym. As we prepare to see  the BHS Class of 2019 set sail for adventures unknown, the Icon looks to past BHS valedictorians (students who were the top of their class) to inspire this year's graduates and show how experience has shaped those who have gone before them.
