Mittendorf on Bradley University dean's list

Thaddeus Mittendorf, a Bradley student majoring in Accounting from Bluffton, OH, has been named to the Fall 2021 Dean's List. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must achieve a minimum 3.5 grade point average for the semester on a 4.0 scale.

Bradley University is a private university in Peoria, Illinois, with some 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

Bluffton Girl Scouts raise funds with cookie sales

Girl Scouts in Bluffton are ready for annual cookie sales, which fund local scouting activities throughout the year. On January 7, Bluffton scouts from 5 local troops (kindergarten to 8th grade) met at the Bluffton United Methodist Church for activities to prepare them for cookie sales.

OSU-Lima scholarships announced

The Ohio State University at Lima has named its scholarship winners for the 2021-2022 academic year. Scholarship winners are attending Ohio State Lima and meet the criteria for each scholarship.

Senior Center 2021 Volunteer of the Year

The Bluffton Senior Citizens Center board of directors has chosen Jerry Augustine and his wife Ruth, who passed away in November, to be honored as the 2021 Volunteers of the Year. Augustine accepted the honor at the center’s December dinner meeting.

The couple have been bringing donated bread to the senior center for years. It is free for anyone to pick up.

Lion members recognized for 55 and 60 years of service

The Bluffton Lions Club December 2021 newsletter recognized the following members for continuing service: Dan Diller 10 years; Stephanie Larcom 10 years; Bill Croft 15 years; Elaine Harris 15 years; Jim Bemiller 30 years; Jerry Lewis 30 years; Alan Yoder 55 years; Dick Boehr 60 years.

Also in Lions news: Committees will be meeting in January for the Dare to Dream project, Citizen of the Year and the Awards committee.

Former Bluffton resident runs for SC senate seat

Former Bluffton resident Mike Reichenbach is running against Jay Jordan in the Special Republican Primary for South Carolina State Senate District 31 on January 25. The special election will fill the unexpired term of Sen. Hugh Leatherman, who died in November of a non-COVID illness. 

The general election is March 29, 2022. Suzanne La Rochelle is Democratic Party candidate for the seat.

Reichenbach operates two car dealerships in Florence, SC and one in Bluffton, SC.
