Bluffton council members will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 28, in the town hall, according to Nancy Kindle, village fiscal officer.

The purpose of the meeting is to conduct interviews for one open council seat.

 

The Village of Bluffton’s Maple Grove Cemetery trustee board will meet Monday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m. in the town hall, according to Nancy Kindle, village fiscal officer.
 

Although its not yet mulch season, Bluffton council received two quotes for brush dump grinding this winter. Bids are from Winter Go Green, Findlay, for $21,225, and Park Enterprise Construction, Marion, for $15,650. 

Park informed council that they are able to perform the work as early as two weeks from the acceptance of the quote. Action on awarding a contract is anticipated at Monday's Bluffton council meeting.

Jeff Richards will be offered a contract as head varsity football coach at Bluffton High School during the Jan. 11 Bluffton school board meeting.
 
He is a 2004 Bluffton High School and 2008 Bluffton University graduate and played football for both the Pirates and Beavers. His father, Mike Richards, was a previous BHS football coach.
 
Richards currently teaches third grade at Bath Elementary. He is also head wrestling coach at Bath.
 

A vacancy exists on Bluffton council due to an unusual and somewhat complicated drama that unfolded at the Jan. 4 council meeting.
 
With two former council members sitting in the audience – Sean Burrell and David Steiner – because their seats expired on Dec. 31, the four-seated council members acted in the following fashion on the two council vacancies:
 
• By a 4-0 vote, council appointed Burrell to fill one vacancy.

Bluffton council reorganizes for 2016 on Jan. 4. Among agenda items is the discussion of how to proceed with one vacant council seats. One of those seats is Judy Augsburger's seat currently held by David Steiner.
