The contract for Stephen Chamberlain, which expires on Dec. 31, was not renewed. Chamberlain of Lima, worked as village solicitor for over 10 years. No reason was given by council for the change on Monday.
Nearly 30 persons attended Monday’s school board meeting to request assistance for a powerlifting group of students. Their requests went unanswered.
As an informal group, Bluffton students have participated in powerlifting competition for eight years. The specific request from the group was for the board to approve a volunteer to assist powerlifters in the Ricky Matter weight room.
At the present time there is no approved volunteer. Powerlifting is a winter sport. In Bluffton it is primarily a sport involving girls, however there are also boys who participate.
In its final regularly scheduled meeting of 2018, Bluffton council will finalize a three-month appropriation piece of legislation on Monday. Tonight’s meeting was originally set for Dec. 24, but moved to Dec. 17.
Several additional legislative pieces will be on the table. These include:
|• Ordinance to enable a comprehensive access management plan (2nd reading)
• Ordinance amending income tax ordinance to require landlords of rental or leased properties to report name of their tenants over the age of 18
Bluffton school board will take the next step on Monday to place two renewal levies on the May 7, 2019, Ohio primary election ballot. In November the board went on record to pursue the renewals. Monday’s action will state the board’s intent to proceed with placing the levies on the ballot.
The first renewal is for the permanent improvement one-half percent income tax first passed in May of 2007. It is renewed in three-year. It will expire Dec. 31, 2019, and generates $700,000 per year for the school district.
Bluffton council will discuss a draft of legislation to regulate access to public streets in the village on Monday evening.
Titled “an access management plan,” it came about specifically to address road cuts on State Route 103 between County Line Road and Interstate 75.
Council’s ordinance committee (Joe Selhorst, Mitch Kingsley) met on Dec. 3. They have worked with Tom Mazur, of Lima Allen County Regional Planning Commission, and Choice One, an engineering firm, used by the village to craft a draft for discussion.

About those falling leaves.
The village will continue its leaf pick up until Thursday, Dec. 6, announced Bryan Lloyd, assistant village administrator, during Monday’s Bluffton council meeting.
The weather, of course, had hindered this fall’s leaf pickup. Lloyd said that after Dec. 6 residents with leaves may place them in biodegradable bags at the curb for Wednesday brush pick up. Residents may also continue to use the Spring Street brush dump for leaf deposit.
