FINDLAY __ A new organization called the Flag City Nurse Honor Guard was established in April 2023 with 4 attendees and a discussion about what a Nurse Honor Guard is and why the Findlay area needs one.
The concept was created in 2003 by the Kansas State Nurses Association. The National Nurses Honor Guard Coalition was formed by Julie Godby Nurry, now director of the National Nurses Honor Guard Coalition.
Claire Gonyer, a nurse at Blanchard Valley Health System was inspired to by attending the funeral of a friend, when an honor service was performed. With enthusiasm the Flag City Nurse Honor Guard was formed and began attending funerals when asked by families to say the final roll call.
RUSSELLS POINT,__ The Our Lady of Fatima Shrine was destroyed by the powerful EF-3 tornado that hit Indian Lake on March 14. The property owner, The American Society of Ephesus (ASE), is now partnering with ArtSpace Lima to conduct a design competition to rebuild the shrine.
Pieces of the nearly 20-foot tall statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary were found in the lake over two weeks later by a team of volunteer divers..The remnants of the shrine pedestal were demolished for safety reasons.”We immediately had requests from the local community to build it back, and there was never any question about it, we will rebuild the shrine," said Bill Quatman, president of the nonprofit corporation.
Crime Victim Services has announced the launch of a Mobile Advocacy Initiative in Putnam County. Bi-weekly walk-in sessions will be held at Grace Mennonite Church in Pandora throughout the summer, welcoming all who seek support.
The Black Swamp Area Council has shared the national announcement that Boy Scouts of America is changing its name to Scouting America.
"The new name reflects the continuing efforts to welcome everyone to experience the benefits of Scouting," explains Marc Kogan, Black Swamp Scout Executive. The name change will go into effect on February 8, 2025, the organization’s 115th birthday.
Kogan notes, “We are excited to continue to welcome all youth into Scouting. Scouting makes youth prepared for life teaching today’s youth to become leaders of tomorrow!”
