Hancock Park District’s annual photography contest opens

FINDLAY__Hancock Park District’s 28th Annual Photography Contest is now underway. To be eligible for judging, photographs must be taken in the Hancock Park System (i.e., parks owned and/or managed by the Hancock Park District), from the Blanchard River Greenway Trail, or of the Blanchard River (e.g., landscapes, wildlife, and outdoor recreation).

Ohio Highway Patrol releases Thanksgiving Holiday report

COLUMBUS__According to provisional statistics, eight people were killed in seven crashes on Ohio roadways during the 2023 Thanksgiving holiday period, resulting in the fewest deaths since 2018. The five-day Thanksgiving reporting period began on Wednesday, November 22 at midnight and ran through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 26,

Bluffton Residential Lights Competition entries welcome

The annual Bluffton residential holiday lighting competition is now accepting registrations through December. Sponsored by the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce, $1000 in Chamber Bucks will be awarded for Best Overall, Best Lights, Best Decorations, Mayor’s Choice, and the Chamber Choice.

Heating assistance reminder for low income Ohioans

The Ohio Department of Development and Area Agency on Aging 3 want to remind Ohioans assistance is available to help with their home energy bills. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps Ohioans at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines pay their heating bills.

November 14 Field Reports from the Ohio Division of Wildlife

Northwest Ohio – Wildlife District Two 
During the early two-day white-tailed deer gun hunting season in the disease surveillance area, State Wildlife Officer Ryan Kennedy, assigned to Hardin County, received a report of a hunter with no hunter orange. Officer Kennedy located the bowhunter, who was sitting in a tree stand dressed in full camouflage. The bowhunter was issued a citation for not wearing hunter orange during a deer gun season. The subject pleaded guilty and received a $200 fine. It is important for every hunter, regardless of hunting implement, to wear hunter orange during any gun season.

One fatal traffic crash reported in Allen County for October 2023

LIMA__The Lima-Allen County Safe Community Coalition reports there was one fatal traffic crash on Allen County roadways during October 2023.

Thus far, there have been a total of 8 fatalities on Allen County roadways due to traffic crashes in 2023. In comparison, during 2022 there were 12 fatal crash through October.
