Watch the "Great Conjunction" tonight

Jupiter and Saturn will be easy to see with the unaided eye by looking toward the southwest just after sunset

FROM NASA - Skywatchers are in for an end-of-year treat tonight, Dec. 21.

What has become known popularly as the “Christmas Star” is an especially vibrant planetary conjunction easily visible in the evening sky over the next two weeks as the bright planets Jupiter and Saturn come together, culminating on the night of Monday, Dec. 21.

In 1610, Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei pointed his telescope to the night sky, discovering the four moons of Jupiter – Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto.

Federal funds will cover 100% of airport taxiway rehabilitation

Engineering work on the nearly $1 million project takes place in 2021

2021 will see completion of a nearly $1 million updgrade at the Bluffton airport, according to Jesse Blackburn, village administrator.

A November airport planning meeting included a review of 2020 and earlier grants and status updates for several future grants. The discussion points of that November meeting were part of the Dec. 14 Bluffton council agenda.

Blackburn told council members that in 2020 the village received a federal grant to upgrade certain airport taxiways. In 2021 engineering for those upgrades will take place.

“A” from Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

For Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center

Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center once again was awarded an ‘A’ in the fall  Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing St. Rita’s achievements providing safer health care. 

This is the sixth consecutive top grade awarded to St. Rita’s by the nationally recognized rating organization.

Ohioans are now being vaccinated

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Lt. Governor Jon Husted provided the following updates on Ohio's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

VACCINATIONS BEGIN IN OHIO
 The first COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered in Ohio. Shipments of 975 doses were delivered this morning to both The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus and UC Health in Cincinnati.

Several healthcare workers and personnel who are routinely involved with the care of COVID-19 patients immediately received vaccinations.
