July 16 BBQ fundraiser for Bluffton Cattle 4-H Club

The Bluffton Cattle 4-H Club will be hosting their annual chicken BBQ fundraiser at the Bluffton Sportsmen’s Club (405 N. Spring St., Bluffton) on Sunday, July 16 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

The money raised benefits the Bluffton-Pandora-Beaverdam buyers group, who support the Bluffton area livestock exhibitors at the Allen County Fair. 

Tickets are $10.00 each which includes a 1/2 chicken, mac & cheese, green beans, and a roll, catered by Bubba C’s.

There will also be a bake sale by donation. Pre-sale tickets are available from any Bluffton Cattle Club member.

Registration deadline nears for August 8 Special Election

Northwest Ohio – Wildlife District Two 

During the 2023 walleye run, State Wildlife Officer Reid Van Cleve, assigned to Ottawa County, patrolled the Maumee River. He observed four individuals fishing from two boats. Officer Van Cleve observed all four individuals keeping snagged walleye. Officer Van Cleve and State Wildlife Officer Mike Ohlrich, assigned to Fulton County, contacted the group and seized nine walleyes as evidence. The four individuals were served citations for their violations. They were found guilty and paid $950 in fines and court costs.

CAIRO – In a historic local baseball game 62 summers ago, Cairo’s Memorial Park hosted the former Negro League Kansas City Monarchs, a legendary team featuring Hall of Fame pitcher Satchel Paige.

Over six decades later the town memorialized the special event with a historical marker at the same park this past Saturday under the auspices of the Ohio Historical Connection. Ada’s Gail Altstaetter was at both events.

Hancock County Highway construction update

Week of June 12, 2023

LIMA, Ohio (Thursday, June 8, 2023) The following construction projects are anticipated to affect highways in Hancock County next week. All outlined work is weather permitting.

Interstate 75 rest areas, both directions, between State Route 235 and U.S. 68/SR 15 will close on Thursday, June 15, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. for utility work.

U.S. 30 between State Route 235 and the Wyandot County line will be restricted to one lane for resurfacing.
