Village of Beaverdam emergency meeting for park funding

The Village of Beaverdam will hold an Emergency Meeting on Thursday, November 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the Village Hall Council Room, with the purpose of passing Resolution 2022-07 allowing the Village to apply for the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District 2023 Cooperative Park Improvement Grant Program Funding.

Cory-Rawson among districts featured at state education conference

COLUMBUS — The Cory-Rawson Local School district showcased one of its outstanding student achievement programs at this year’s Ohio School Boards Association Capital Conference and Trade Show. 

The Student Achievement Fair, which highlights exemplary programs and student  performing groups, is one of the most successful and rewarding exhibitions at the Capital  Conference.

CVS volunteer guardian information session, Nov. 16

Crime Victim Services will hold an information session on becoming a volunteer guardian in Allen County from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

Volunteer guardians serve adults who are found to be incompetent of making important life decisions and who do not have an appropriate support person in their life to make such decisions. 70% of protected persons with a CVS Volunteer Guardian are survivors of domestic violence or sexual assault.

November is Seatbelt Safety & Enforcement Month

For the month of November, federal, state, and local law enforcement officers will be working together to increase safety on our roadways and stress the importance of wearing a seatbelt– every time, every trip– day or night. 

According to NHTSA, the national use rate was at 90.4% in 2021 and saved about 14,955 lives in 2017. Choosing to wear a seat belt is easy and can save your life.  Failure to use appropriate vehicle safety equipment, including child passenger safety seats, can lead to serious or even fatal injuries. Beaverdam receives $21K Nature Works funding for park fence

Beaverdam will receive a $21,853 grant from Nature Works Round 28 Awards for the installation of a secure fence around a playground area in the village park.

The grant is one of 68 recently announced by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). $1.7 million in grants will support dozens of new outdoor recreation projects across the state. Projects include the development of playgrounds, natural playscapes, trails, restrooms, dog parks, baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis and pickleball courts, splash pads and picnic shelters.

I-75 rest areas to close for landscaping and tree removal

Interstate 75 northbound roadside park will close on Wednesday, Nov. 9, for approximately three days for landscaping and tree removal.

Interstate 75 southbound roadside park will close on Monday, Nov. 14 for approximately three days for landscaping and tree removal.

All outlined work is weather permitting.
