Chamber newsletter posted on Icon; chamber invites individuals as members

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce Aug. 13 newsletter is now available to Icon viewers. It offers information about several late summer and fall events in Bluffton. The newsletter is an attachment at the bottom of this story.

The chamber has extended an invitation to individuals interested in helping to promote Bluffton to become chamber members. A one-year individual membership is only $50.

Presently the chamber has 182 members. One additional attachment to this story includes a list of chamber benefits, which includes an application form for individuals.

It's a coyote, no, it's a fox, no, it's a dog, no, it's a bobcat; whatever it is, Bluffton's mysterious beast has returned

Loch Ness has its monster and, now, it appears that Bluffton does, too. Several sightings of an unidentified animal have been reported in Bluffton in the past week and two persons captured the creature on cell phone cameras.

Both photographs were reportedly taken on the north side of Bluffton in daylight hours. Speculation on the identify of the creature ranges all the way from a fox, a coyote, bobcat, or simply an unusual dog.

The Apollo Career Center announced today an upcoming $30 million bond offering. Those interested in learning more about the bond offering are encouraged to attend an informational meeting to be held Wednesday, Aug. 28,  at 6 p.m. at the Apollo Career Center, 3325 Shawnee Rd, Lima.

Gerald and Helen Brooks observe 60th wedding anniversary

Gerald (Jerry) and Helen Brooks will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 25, with their children Sue (Arman) Habegger of Pandora, George (Altha) Brooks of Van Wert, Jim Brooks and Chris Orton of Bluffton, and Carole (Bruce) Okuley of Bluffton.

Gerald and Helen have five grandchildren. Gerald is retired from Ex-Cell-O / Pure Pak and continues to farm. Helen is a retired registered nurse. The couple was married on Aug,
14, 1953, in Morehead City, North Carolina.
