Southgate Lanes-chamber team up for Sept. 28 fundraiser

Southgate Lanes and Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce have teamed up to sponsor a Business Bowling Scramble on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the bowling alley, 9700 N. Dixie Highway, Bluffton.

“The event is a fundraiser for the chamber’s Main Street banner project,” said Derek Dukes of the bowling alley. “Ten four-person teams will compete in the evening scramble. Bowling begins at 5 p.m.”

Bluffton Police Chief: Ill fox destroyed and buried on Friday

Friday afternoon a Bluffton Icon viewer notified The Icon that a fox was shot by Bluffton police between Tom Fett Road and the Maple Grove Cemetery earlier today.

Upon contacting Rick Skilliter, Bluffton police chief, Skilliter told The Icon: “I can confirm one animal determined to be an ill fox was destroyed and buried by village crews earlier today.”

United Way work night reset for Aug. 20

Bluffton-Beaverdam-Richland Township United Way work night is rescheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 20, according to Linda Fleming. The event is at 6:30 p.m. in the Bluffton middle school cafetorium.

Bluffton Icon invites BHS and middle school students to consider an internship

The Bluffton Icon has openings for Bluffton High School and Middle School interns this school year, according to Fred Steiner.

The Icon seeks students with a variety of interests for these non-paid positions that offer lots of experience. Students interested in writing, photography and who have knowledge of social media are encouraged to contact Steiner.

Several intern positions are available. For example, students with an interest in movies or music are invited to write movie and music reviews. These writing projects allow students to write opinions using pen names.
