Go ahead...guess how much rain we had in August

Go head. Guess how many inches of rain fell in August. Guess again.
According to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, 6.35 inches of rain fell on the Bluffton-Pandora area in August. That's twice the normal August precipitation, which is 3.43 inches.
Rain was recorded on 10 days in August, and it all fell between the 4th and the 27th. The most rain was 1.54 inches on Aug. 10.
Other than rain, August was pretty normal. The average August 2012 daily temperature was 70.9 degrees. The normal average August daily temperature is 70.5 degrees.

Bluffton Relay for Life sets 2013 event date; plans kickoff meeting in October

It's 11 months away, but the Bluffton Relay for Life has officially started planning its 2013 event. Next year's Relay is Friday and Saturday, June 21-22 at Salzman Stadium, Bluffton University.

Chamber has extra strands of Christmas garland for sale

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce has two extra strands of lighted holiday garland for sale. The garland was purchased last summer. It is identical to the garland on Main Street.
For sale is:
o One 60-foot strand with lights - $459
o One 40-foot strand with lights - $306

Sept. 13 next blood drive in Pandora

Pandora's next American Red Cross blood drive is from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, in the Pandora United Methodist Church.

First monthly senior breakfast is Sept. 12

The 2012-13 Bluffton school senior breakfast schedule is now available. Each month a free breakfast is served for senior citizens at the Bluffton Middle school. Serving is at 8:30 a.m. Following breakfast a school group performs. Here's this year's schedule.
Sept 12 - Marching band
Oct. 17 - Show choir
Nov. 14 - Drama Club
Dec. 12 - Concert Choir
Jan. 9 - Strings
Feb. 13 - Ladies First Choir
March 6 - Concert Band
April 10 - High school musical
May 8 - Jazz Band

Bluffton Lions September newsletter now available for Icon viewers

Bluffton Lions have two meetings in September. Both are at noon at Maple Crest.
Sept. 4 - Dr. Darrell Groman will talk about the Bluffton-Pandora connections of Captain James Riley
Sept. 18 - Eric Fulcomer will talk about his trip to Israel with Bluffton University students.
