Lima-Allen County Convention and Visitors' Bureau Calendar features Bluffton

Bluffton is featured in the current e-mailed Lima/Allen County Convention and Visitors' Bureau Community Calendar of Events. The calender has previously been a mailed piece. It is now available by e-mail.

The calendar lists activities held in Allen County that are open to the public. The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce lists several items taking place in Bluffton throughout the year in the Calendar of Events.

Boot camp style class offered at BFR

BFR Sports & Fitness is offering a boot camp style class. TBC is similar to P90X, Crossfit and Insanity. Each workout is different and under the supervision of a staff trainer. Kettle bells, medicine balls, stability ball, free weights, and body weight will be used. Modification can be made for those who need it.

Classes are Monday -Friday 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m., Monday and Wednesday 5:30 to 6 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday 12:10 to 12:40 pm. Classes are free for BFR members and $5 for non members or you can purchase an aerobics card.

Mound Street wires down

This was the scene on July 3 on Mound Street prior to power line repair. Residents of the neighborhood cleaned up the tree on Friday to make it easier for the crews when they arrive, yet it took several days to resolve the situation, according to residents of Mound.

Herr country school victim of wind storm

Another elderly victim of the June 29 storm is the Herr country school. It is located on the corner of Bentley Road and Hillville Road.

This one-room school house has stood through hundreds of storms, but this latest one took its toll on this school.

Gone with the wind

We didn't count the rings, but we are betting this tree is a centurian. The Buckeye fell during the June 29 severe wind storm. Accompaying this story is a video, which involves a walk around the tree.

Also accompanying this story is a photo taken Oct. 31, 1900, at the dedication of College Hall. there are several trees in the photo. This one would have been small. We can't claim to see it in this photo, but perhaps other Icon viewers see it.
