It rained 25 of April's 30 days

April was wet. According to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, it not only rained 25 out of 30 days in April, the total rain measured 6.22 inches. That compares to 3.29 normal inches of rain for April.

Looking on the good side, April 2011's average temperature was 50. 4 degrees. The normal April average temperature is 48.5 degrees.

April's highest temperature reached 74 degrees on the 11th and 23rd. The low was 28 degrees on April 1 and 3.

Silent auction, amateur photo contest fundraisers set by public library

Bluffton Public Library has just the ticket for fun and relaxation.The library is holding two fundraisers related to this year's adult summer reading theme, "Novel Destinations."

The first event is a silent auction that will be held from May 16 through June 4. Over 30 items will be available to bid on, including historic bed and breakfast locations in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana; a river cruise; a Tennessee amusement park; a West Virginia whitewater raft trip; and area festivals, gardens, historic homes, museums and much more.

Chamber and Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs sponsor free social media workshop

That term, creeping into conversations, will be explored in a free open to the public workshop Friday, May 13, co-sponsored by the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce and Bluffton Centre for Entrepreneurs. The event is open to anyone interested in learning more about social media. The workshop is particularly aimed at businesses.

Get out the rod and reel - Grand Shannon lurks in the Buckeye for Sunday's derby

Make way for Grand Shannon.

The Bluffton Sportsmen's Club 67th annual trout derby, held Sunday, May 1, will honor the village sesquicentennial by naming its number one tagged ground "Grand Shannon."This year's derby has over $4,000 in cash and prizes on tagged trout.

Icon viewers had a hand in naming this year's fish. The Sportsmen's Club invited The Icon to poll viewers on four suggested names for this year's tag number 1. Icon viewers chose "Grand Shannon."
