Lunar new year stamp

Two new postage stamps are available in Bluffton this week.

On Jan. 22, the U.S. Postal Service issueed the fourth of 12 stamps in its Celebrating Lunar New Year series, which began in 2008 with the Year of the Rat. The Year of the Rabbit begins on Feb. 3, 2011, and ends on Jan. 22, 2012.

On Jan. 27 a stamp recognizing the 150th anniversary of Kansas statehood will be issued.

Jane and Earl from Putnam County went to the Shannon Theatre on Sunday. The Icon spotted their plate on Main Street.

Over 100 items make up this year's Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary Auction. The silent auction hours are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 24-26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Thursday, Jan. 27, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Items are on display in the second floor conference room at the hospital, according to Diane Stratton, auxiliary president.

Bluffton University's Grace Albrecht Gallery will host two events Friday, Jan. 28, with painter Andre' Martinez Reed, whose exhibition of oil paintings, "Etudes in Liberation on Paper: Hands, Heart, Mind and Rhythm," is now on display in the gallery.

Reed, director of the Henry Gregg Gallery in Brooklyn, N.Y., will present a painting demonstration and gallery talk from 8-9:50 a.m. that day.

A Relay of Life team and committee meeting is planned this week. The meeting is at noon, Thursday, Jan. 26, in the Bluffton town hall.

There will be no at 5:30 p.m. that evening.
