The Pirates open Northwest Conference play at Delphos Jefferson

VAN BUREN - The visiting Bluffton baseball team was no-hit in a  five-inning 21-0 loss at Van Buren Saturday.

The Pirates fell to 0-6 with the non-league defeat, while VB improved to 3-2 with the shutout victory.

Black Knight pitcher Weston Heitkamp struck out eight and walked none while allowing no hits over five innings. He hit one batter. 

The Knights pushed across nine runs in the first inning to seize control. VB then plated seven more scores in the second frame to build an insurmountable 16-0 lead.

BLUFFTON - The host Bluffton baseball team lost 13-4 to Upper Scioto Valley on a cold Wednesday evening.

The Pirates fell to 0-5 with the non-league defeat. The Rams improved to 2-2 with the victory.

USV jumped in front with four runs in the top of the first inning. Bluffton tied it 4-4 with a four-run rally in the bottom of the third frame.

But the Rams responded with six runs in the top of the fourth, then added three more scores in the fifth to put the game out of reach.

Defiance next on the Pirate schedule

ELIDA - The visiting Bluffton boys tennis team defeated Elida 3-2 on a cold and windy Wednesday evening to win their first match of the season.

The Pirate netmen improved to 1-1 this season with the victory.

Pirate senior Eden Nygaard won at first singles, while teammate Thad Mittendorf also was victorious at third singles.

The Bluffton first doubles team of Eli Wagner and Braeden Ackerman supplied the third Pirate triumph. 

Elida won the second doubles match by default.

BHS spring teams looking for first wins

Carey  homers blast Pirate boys

CAREY - The visiting Buffton baseball team lost 16-6 at Carey on a warm Tuesday evening.

The Pirates fell to 0-4 with the five-inning, run-rule shortened defeat.

Blue Devils Jordan Vallejo and Gavin Baker each hit two home runs to lead Carey's 12-hit offense. In the first inning, the duo slammed back-to-back homers as they built an early 8-0 lead.

The Pirates rallied within 8-5 behind a big third inning, but Carey scored eight unanswered runs to put the game out of reach.

Bluffton netmen 5th at Lima tourney

LIMA - The Bluffton boys tennis team took fifth place in the six-team Lima City tennis tournament Saturday at the Collett Street Courts to open their season.

Shawnee won the team title with 33 points, followed by LCC in second place (22). Bluffton tallied 13 points to finish well ahead of Wapakoneta.

Pirate senior Eden Nygaard captured fourth place in the first singles flight. Bluffton sophomore Luke Shadle finished second in the number two singles competition.

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton softball team led early but fell to McComb Monday evening in its season lidlifter, 12-1.

McComb plated seven runs in the sixth inning to break open a 5-1 battle and post a run-rule victory in six frames.

Lauren Swartzwalder smacked a run-scoring double in the first inning to pace the Pirates to an early 1-0 lead. But McComb answered with four runs in the second frame to take control.

McComb pitching and defense then held Bluffton scoreless over the final five frames. The visitors out-hit Bluffton, 12-5.
