Several summer Pirate sports camps are on the calendar. Here's the schedule:

Blanchard River Watershed Partnership holds June 13 Bluffton Golf Club scramble

The Blanchard River Watershed Partnership (BRWP) is hosting Little Riley Creek golf scramble Saturday, June 13, at the Bluffton Golf Club, according to Phil Martin, watershed coordinator.

The four-person scramble starts at 9 a.m., rain or shine. There are first, second and third place team prizes, certain hole prizes and a 50/50 drawing.

Registration is $60 per person ($54 for a BRWP member), which includes 18 holes of golf, cart and food coupon.

Sponsorships opportunities are available from $100 and up. The scramble is open to golfers 18 and older.

Bluffton HS grad Hannah Chappell-Dick takes third at Division III national championships

Bluffton High School graduate Hannah Chappell-Dick ran a huge PR and finished in third in the 1500m at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships on Saturday in Canton, N.Y.  

She took more than three seconds of her best time, finishing in 4:27.25 on the national stage and within a second of the national champion. Her previous PR, which had been the ODAC record, was 4:30.97. She now has whacked 5.58 seconds off the old ODAC record, set by Roanoke's Carmen Graves at 4:32.83.

Open tennis court practice begins June 1

Starting Monday, June 1, at 7 p.m. Bluffton boys interested in playing tennis will have an opportunity to learn the sport. Every Monday night we will have free instructions at the Howe Tennis Courts on East College Avenue, according to Mike Hilty, BHS head boys tennis coach.

Pirates boys' and girls' track teams second at NWC meet

Bluffton High Schools' girls' and boys' track teams both finished solid second places in the Northwest Conference track meet, which concluded May 16 at Columbus Grove.

BHS Maddie Willis second in NWC softball balloting

In voting by Northwest Conference softball coaches for the 2015 softball season senior Hope Schroeder, a pitcher from Columbus Grove, was named Player of the Year after being runner-up for that honor during the 2014 season.  

Schroeder received first-place votes from 7 of the conference coaches.  Coaches may not vote for players from their own schools. 

Bluffton senior Maddie Willis finished second in the balloting with Allen East sophomore Ariana Schmiedebusch finishing third.
